Smiley’s Kitchen – 5 Essential “Copycat” Earth Bowl Recipes

“Buddha Bowl”, “Nourish Bowl”, “Earth Bowl”, “Macro Bowl”, “Grain Bowl”… all of which are terms to fill in for the well-known “Buddha Bowl”.  Not to bore you, but “Buddha bowls” aren’t truly about Buddha himself, but they are in fact delicious—especially when packed full of abundant amounts of leafy greens and topped with an herby Green dressing.

At some point last year, every “grain” or “Macro” bowl transformed into a “Buddha Bowl”. It practically “exploded” on restaurant menus, on blogs, and especially on Pinterest.  It turns out, that “Buddha” was put into the “bowl”, not to enforce meditation and sun salutations, but because historically, buddhism focuses on the fascination of mindfulness and healthy eating.

I prefer the term, “Earth Bowl”, not because I’m not buddhist (I absolutely do respect and admire the health-conscious mindset of buddhists) but because essentially, I believe in the awe-inspiring abundance of plants, vegetables, nuts, seeds, avocados (you get the point), brought to us by Mother Earth.  The sight of a gorgeous (high-quality Instagram photograph) Earth Bowl defiantly gives me “THE FEELS”, can you relate or am I just being awkward????  I take no shame in being a complete (proud) Earth Bowl Enthusiast; I mean think about it, a bowl packed with every possible nutrient-packed food, full of endless creations, super quick and easy, and delectable!  SO, without further ado, my  5 Essential (Homemade) “Copycat” Earth Bowl Recipes, inspired by those Earth Bowls that always seem too perfect to make at home…

A zesty combination of probiotic-dense sauerkraut, soothing ginger, creamy avocado, leafy greens and black sesame ginger tofu.

Two bunches of any Leafy Green (Romaine, Baby Lettuce, Microgreens)

Firm Tofu (Use organic, non-gmo if possible)

-One Avocado

-Cooked Brown Rice or More Greens

-Sauerkraut of choice (I used “WILDBRINE ARAME & GINGER KRAUT” )

(I also added BRAGGS Ginger and Sesame Dressing , as well as a Ginger Kombucha to add to the perfection!)

My newly created Earth Bowl, inspired by my odd craving for anything sautéed this week.  I can assure you, there is nothing better than a bowl full of sautéed, crispy vegetables (yes, even Brussel sprouts), I suggest using the leaves for brush sprout beginners 🙂

-Baby Broccoli

-Baby Bella Mushrooms

-Heirlooms Carrots

-Brussel Sprout Leaves

-Cooked Brown Rice

-I used my all-time favorite sauce ( original Bitchin’ Sauce ) made entirely out of almonds, vegan, gluten-free and uniquely brilliant on most anything!

With this Earth Bowl, I sautéed the broccoli, mushrooms, carrots and Brussel sprout leaves in olive oil for about 10-15 minutes until light brown and crispy (note- if you add barges ginger and sesame dressing while sautéing, it adds a load of flavor, avoiding any added salt)!

If you haven’t already imagined the creaminess of the avocado, mixed with the sweet-gingery vegetables, you’re missing out my friend…

-Cooked Brown Rice

Steamed Broccoli

-Steamed Carrots

-Charbroiled Tofu (use organic, non-gmo if possible)

-Black Sesame Seeds

I also added Braggs Ginger-Seasame Dressing , (which I happen to call my “all-purpose” dressing since I use it in practically everything!

The truly “perfect” bowl for on-the-go or a quick relaxed lunch, with the perfect ratios of protein, healthy-fats and (complex) carbohydrates!

Sautéed Sweet Potato

-Heirloom Tomatoes

-Avocado (Sliced)

-Black Beans (Lentils work too)

-Cilantro-Lime Rice (brown rice)

I sautéed sweet potatoes in avocado oil for about 10 minutes until brown and crispy on the edges, and added to bowl.  For the rice, I cooked brown rice in 1 tablespoon lime juice for 15 minutes, and added cilantro until fully cooked into the rice.

A creamy blend of (protein and B-vitamin rich) Tahini and Avocado, atop manganese-rich sprouts and sweet tomatoes.

-Yellow Heirloom Tomatoes

-Broccoli Sprouts

-A bed (two handfuls) of leafy greens

-Homemade Tahini-Avocado Dressing

(Tahini-Avocado Dressing Ingredients)

1 small avocado (or ½ a large one)
* 1½ tablespoons tahini
* 2 tablespoons lemon juice
* 1 small garlic clove
* 1 tablespoon olive oil
* 2 tablespoons water
* salt and pepper

So friends, if I’ve done anything, I hope I’ve opened your mine to the world of “Earth Bowls” even more, and inspired you that you can truly get as creative as possible, using the simplest of ingredients, and feel like million-dollars!  Until next time, Happy Healing,  and “EARTH BOWL ON”!
